Released January 29, 2003 DC Comics, Color 23 Pages Five Reasons to Call in Sick Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning - Writers Kev Walker - Pencils Andy Lanning and Al Milgrom - Inks Jason Wright - Colors Stephen Wacker - Editor Synopsis This issue picks up right where we left off in #15 with the Fatal Five standing off against the Legion team of Timber Wolf, Ultra Boy, XS, Wildfire and Shikari.  Combat begins as Brin and Jo snipe at each other.  Wildfire goes after the Persuader, who easily spits Drake's energy with the Axe.  XS goes after Mano, who then rips the ground out from under her. Shikari squares off against the Empress, and the bickering duo take on Validus who zaps them both, but doesn't take them out. The Persuader, cuts open Wildfire's suit, distracting Shikari, who is then knocked out by the Empress.  Empress is just about to terminate Shikari when Validus reminds her that they were to keep all Legionnaires alive for bargaining chips. Jo goes on the offense ...

They pair off and start fighting.  M'Onel and Superman fight to a draw. Cham gets suckered by J'Onn pretending to be Brande. Diana and Jo, admiring Diana's... assets... duke it out. Shikari and Batman fight to a draw, as she can see his moves.  Lantern is trying to disassemble Gear. Atom tries the old inner ear disruption trick, but she goes smaller and takes him out, discovering that they are constructs in the process. Wally takes out Jenni, and Wall...

Something approaches them fast, and it turns out to be XS with Star Boy soon after.  There are apparently still thousands of people on the planet.  Jazmin wishes that she could have been there to help Xanthu.  Thom wants to hear news of Earth.  We get a quick update via Chuck channel surfing on Legion World as Winema Wazzo is sworn in as UP President.  Ultra Boy is not happy. Then they pick the best ones to evolve.  Or something.  VP Winema Wazzo is trying to boss around a SP chief when, to her chagrin, the Legion flies in - Cosmic Boy, Ultra Boy, Kid Quantum, Leviathan, Brainiac 5, Chameleon and Shikari.  They bypass the VP and head straight for the terrorforms.   Brainy tries to short cir...

An energy surge hits them and Zoe comes out of nowhere, picking up Trudy and her cameraman (Lizu) and sprinting them out of harm's way.  Zoe is having problems holding on to the two of them while flying and crashes.  Trudy immediately recognizes her as the former Kinetix and tries to get an impromptu interview. Lizu picks up a small purple sphere when the feed goes dead.   In studio, Vigo gets us up to speed with the Footstep Lab story.  In addition to SP forces, apparently the media was there, as well, as Cos used that to speak out on the horrors of that experimentatio...

He walks down a long corridor lined with cells labeled in Interlac and Arabic letters bearing a world name and a number.  He ominously tells them that it will be the last day working.  We finally meet Gates, apparently held captive for the last year as a test subject. Darren prepares to kill Gates when the power goes out. Gates toys with Darren for a bit before popping out of a portal and clocking him, stealing his keycard. Gates pops out to find the Legion in the corridor: Leviathan (Violet), Triad and Brainy.  Ra's is overseeing the lunar terraforming platform when informed about the Footstep lab issue as he and Venge activat...

As in the Blight invasion of Earth, the Robotican invasion of Xanthu takes no time at all, using high technology and bio-weapons to subdue the planet to the point of hand to hand combat being the last defense.
